I only intended to write one post today, but before it was time to publish the first, I was given cause to write a second.
Today we lost a friend. Our little green bird passed away. He was on this earth a very long time and I learned so much from loving this friend.
Rest in peace little guy. You were loved.
My children are very sad. It was difficult for them to find comfort, so I asked them if our pets bring good things to our lives. We had 5 pets until today. They said that, yes, having pets is good. I asked if the good stuff is enough to make the sad parts OK. They decided that the benefits of having our furry and feathered friends around make the hard parts worth it.
This is the second pet my kids will bury. With the first, we wrote words of love, read them aloud, then put her in the ground with a few of her favorite things. It was hard and sad, but I think my kids are better having learned to experience and face death in this way. They get a chance to remember and appreciate the love and joy these little animals brought to our lives. They see the reality of the breakdown of bodies, but also the beauty and power of memory and life.
