Sharing Recipes

Now that I’ve gone on and on about how to get your kids to eat for 4 weeks, it might seem like I missed a BIG part of the picture……..finding foods they might actually like.  Maybe it seems like I think this is beside the point.  I don’t.  I think it’s important to take their little kid palettes into consideration too, although I really think that too much of this can contribute to the Picky Eater Syndrome (PES).  I don’t think it’s true that kids prefer bland foods.  I think it matters more what they become accustomed to from the beginning.

Babies, toddlers and children NEED good nutrition.  It sounds like standard blab to say we need to give them a good start, but it’s true!  A good start doesn’t have to be expensive, or gourmet or time-intensive, just real food (mostly).  I’ve definitely done plenty of Annie’s Mac ‘n’ Cheese from a box, but I like to think that 90% of our food choices are healthy whole foods.

I want to share some of the recipes I have had success with.  These will all be recipes that my husband and I also like eating on a regular basis.  Once my kids had enough teeth to handle all foods, I stopped making special dishes for them.  We all eat the same thing now…..unless it’s Thpithey (spicey).

If you are reading this, please share a recipe that your whole family loves and eats regularly.  Please!!!!!!  Even if it doesn’t seem all that special or fancy to you, it might seem brilliant to the rest of us.

Enjoy Recipe #1!

Almond Butter Raisin Chews

1/2 c. raisins (can substitute other dried fruit.  I’ve used cranberries mixed in for some tartness.)

1/2 c. almond butter

1/3 c. dry milk powder (soy is OK)

1 tsp vanilla

1 tbslp water

Toppings (hemp seeds, shredded unsweetened coconut, unsweetened cocoa powder, any other ideas?)

Grind raisins in a food processor.  Add remaining ingredients and process until smooth.  Shape into about 16 balls.  Roll balls in a topping of your choice or leave plain and chill for at least an hour.
